Certificates Recognizing Outstanding School Volunteer Programs will be Awarded at Reception to Honor Schools and Individual Volunteers

May 25, 1999
A reception sponsored by the Board of Education and the Montgomery County Council of PTAs will honor 92 schools that have met state criteria for an outstanding school volunteer program. The reception will take place on Wednesday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m. in the Carver Educational Services Center auditorium, 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville.

Seven high schools, nine middle schools and 76 elementary schools have qualified to receive an outstanding volunteer certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education this year. Criteria for the award require schools to provide staff orientation, designated volunteer coordinators, and a program that delivers a minimum of two hours of volunteer service for each student enrolled in the school.

In addition, recognition will be given to 110 individuals who have volunteered more than 1000 hours of service and to 431 volunteers who have given 400 hours of service. Certificates earned by these individuals will be distributed at local school recognition ceremonies.
