Schools in Rockville Cluster Invite Parents to "Unlock Mathematical Mysteries" at a Special Parent Information Night

January 12, 2001
Schools in the Rockville Cluster of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will present a special parent information night program, Unlock Mathematical Mysteries, designed to help parents of children in kindergarten through grade 12 understand their children's mathematics studies and provide basic supports at home.

The parent night session will take place on Tuesday, January 23, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at Rockville High School, 2100 Baltimore Road.

The program will begin with a general session to present a broad look at the mathematics curriculum provided by Bertram Generlette, elementary math specialist, and Sally Magulick, secondary math specialist.

A series of breakout sessions, led by teams of teachers and specialists from the cluster schools and MCPS offices, will provide information about specific topics and programs such as mathematics in the revised kindergarten curriculum, the Hands-On Equations Program that teaches algebraic concepts to elementary students, the use of graphing calculators, and the use of performance data to understand a child's progress.

For further information about the parent information night, contact Kelli Phillips, Rockville Cluster Literacy Liaison, at 301-460-2121.
