Superintendent to Present Budget Plans for Next School Year on Thursday, December 7, at Montgomery Blair High School Auditorium

December 5, 2000
Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools, will present new budget proposals on Thursday, December 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Montgomery Blair High School. All teachers and staff, parents, and community are encouraged to attend.

Montgomery Blair High School is located at the intersection of Colesville Road and University Blvd. East. The main presentation will be in the school auditorium. Overflow seating will be available in the cafeteria with closed-circuit television. Parking is available at the school and across the street at the church and private school. Security and county police will be directing traffic.

The presentation will focus on several key areas, including employee salaries and benefits; class-size reductions; expanded full-day kindergarten; enhanced professional staff development; programs in reading, writing and mathematics; increased accountability; and improvements in special education, English language instruction, alternative programs, middle school instruction, technology, security, school administration, and building maintenance.

Public support for these initiatives will be critical as the county faces a potential economic downturn, particularly in tax revenue.
