School Board Approves Calendar and Contingency Calendar for the 2001-2002 School Year

The Board of Education has approved the school calendar for 2001-2002, including 184 instructional days and a contingency plan for identifying days that will be used to make up lost instructional time due to emergency closings.

The first day of school for pupils will be Tuesday, September 4, 2001. The final day of school for pupils will be Wednesday, June 19, 2002.

July 20 Last day of summer school, first session, grades 9-12

July 23 First day of summer school, second session, grades 9-12

Aug. 10 Last day of summer school, second session, grades 9-12

Aug. 28-31 Professional days for teachers

Sept. 3 Holiday* Labor Day

Sept. 4 First day of school for pupils

Sept. 18 Rosh Hashanah - No school for pupils and teachers

School Contingency Calendar, 2001-2002

If the school year should be disrupted by emergencies and schools are closed:

-5 days, the school year will be extended by one day to June 20.

-6 days, the school year will be extended by two days to June 20 and 21.

-7 days, the school year will be extended by three days to June 20 and 21, and schools will be open on April 5 of spring break.

-8 days, the school year will be extended by four days to June 20 and 21, and schools will be open on April 4 and 5 of spring break.

-9 days, the school year will be extended by five days to June 20 and 21, and schools will be open on April 3, 4 and 5 of spring break.
