“5th Grade Challenge” Event to Support MCPS Educational Foundation

The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Educational Foundation will hold its third annual “Are You Up to the 5th Grade Challenge?” event on Monday, April 20.

The fun event will test local celebrity contestants on their knowledge of Grade 5 facts. Students from 27 MCPS elementary schools will also participate. Proceeds will support the Foundation, which provides scholarships, grants and programs that enhance educational opportunities for MCPS students.  

The event will be held at 7 p.m. on April 20 at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, 8633 Colesville Road in Silver Spring. It will feature three contestants: Mark Drury, construction executive at Shapiro & Duncan, Inc; Robin Puttock, an architect at the Lukmire Partnership; and Carissa Stanley, a real estate banker with Amalgamated Bank. Hall Davidson, the director of the Discovery Educator Network will emcee the event and Brian Freiss, the 2011 MCPS Teacher of the Year, will coach the student participants.
