Hundreds of MCPS Students to Participate in Annual Frontiers in Science and Medicine Day

October 24, 2014
More than 500 seventh grade Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students will learn about exciting career opportunities in science and medicine during the 6th annual Frontiers in Science and Medicine Day TODAY, October 24, 2014, at Johns Hopkins University’s Montgomery County campus.

Students from Roberto Clemente and Earle B. Wood middle schools will spend the day participating in various science activities, including interacting with a robotic arm, experimenting with DNA and learning how it is used in forensics, and engaging in a clinical trial to determine the best vaccine or drug to use against a “Zombie” virus. In addition to the hands-on activities, students will have an opportunity to spend time in a local laboratory learning about what scientists do each day. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Johns Hopkins University’s Montgomery County campus, the National Center for Translational Sciences (NCATS), Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and the Universities at Shady Grove with the support of more than 20 local private companies, universities, healthcare organizations and research centers.
