MCPS College Preparation and Scholarship Fair to Take Place on Saturday, April 21

April 19, 2012
A free College Preparation and Scholarship Fair for middle and high school students and their families will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Rockville. The event is co-sponsored by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), Montgomery College and the Universities at Shady Grove.

The purpose of the college fair is to help students and their families learn how to prepare for post-secondary education early and provide them with an opportunity to interact with representatives from colleges, universities, and diverse career fields.

“The conversation about post-secondary education should start as early as possible,” said Joshua P. Starr, Superintendent of Schools. “My hope is that our students and families will get excited about college as they begin to learn about all of the options and resources available to them.”

The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be six breakout sessions on topics such as financial aid resources, preparing for college and the Maryland Savings Fund for parents and students.

MCPS graduates and current Montgomery College students will be available throughout the day to speak with students about the college preparation process. Walking tours of the USG campus will be given by student ambassadors from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited. Students and parents can register online at
www.mcpsparentacademy.org. Interpretation and child care services will be provided. For more information, contact the Department of Family and Community Partnerships at 301-279-3100.
