Twenty-Five Edison Students Medal at State SkillsUSA Competition

Six Thomas Edison High School of Technology students were awarded gold medals at the annual Maryland State SkillsUSA awards ceremony on March 27 held at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Edison’s individual gold medal winners were Juan Cabal, Medical Math; Anna Genova, Pin Design; and Colin Shea, Technical Computer Applications. Winning gold in Community Service were team members Sonia Garcia, Jahmas Hamilton, and Melissa Linsao.

All Edison gold medalists will compete at the National SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City, Missouri, during the week of June 21–25.

A total of 68 Edison students competed in 29 of the state events. In addition to the six gold medal winners, 19 Edison students won silver and bronze medals.

SkillsUSA championships begin locally and competition continues at the regional, state and national levels. The SkillsUSA Championships reward students for excellence, involve industry in directly evaluating student performance, and focus training relevant to employers’ needs. The national competition brings together more than 5,500 students to demonstrate their ability in 92 skills areas.
