Registration Under Way for MCPS Parent Academy Workshops

January 29, 2010
The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Parent Academy continues to accept registrations for its winter 2010 session of workshops for MCPS parents. All workshops are free and are held in schools and other locations throughout the county. Free child care and interpretation services are provided.

Workshops in the winter 2010 lineup give parents the opportunity take a behind-the-scenes tour at the MCPS Department of Transportation, learn basic computer skills, find out about ways to finance a college education, strengthen their advocacy skills, and understand the special education process. The MCPS Parent Academy, a program of the Office of Communications and Family Outreach, was launched in the fall of 2007 to give parents the tools and strategies they need to help their children be successful in school.

Upcoming workshops include—

Seven Keys to College Readiness—Feb. 16, Feb. 18
Special Education: The IEP Process—Feb. 17
Organizational Skills for Middle Schoolers—Feb. 18
Helping Children with Homework—Feb. 22
Behind the Scenes: Food and Nutrition Services—Feb. 25

Parents can view the full schedule of workshops and register online at www.mcpsparentacademy.org. Registrations also are accepted over the phone by calling 301-517-5940.
