Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) begins the school year on August 28 with 139,000-plus students and more than 11,000 teachers—about 1,000 of them new to MCPS.

Five new schools, full-day kindergarten for all students, and two new magnet programs at Poolesville High School highlight the start of school this year. Clarksburg is the first new high school to open since 1998. Other new schools are Great Seneca Creek, Little Bennett, Roscoe R. Nix, and Sargent Shriver elementary schools. This brings the total number of MCPS schools to 199.
