Magruder's Lee Evans Receives Linowes Award

June 15, 2006
Lee Evans, acting principal at Col. Zadok Magruder High School, is one of seven recipients of a 2006 Linowes Leadership Award. The awards are given annually by the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, in cooperation with NBC 4, to individuals who set an example for others through their service and leadership.

At the awards ceremony on June 13, Evans was characterized as an unsung hero who works tirelessly to make a difference in young lives. Teachers and staff at Magruder describe an individual who is exceptionally good at relating to young people and whose open-door policy encourages students to share both their problems and their successes.

Evans says, “My philosophy, and this guides me in dealing with the kids, is that I’m slow to speak and quick to listen.”

Linowes winners each receive a $2,000 award and an additional $3,000 to give to a non-profit organization of their choice.
