Einstein HS Student Named Finalist for State Board of Ed.

Shaakira Raheem, a junior at Albert Einstein High School, is one of two final candidates for student member of the Maryland State Board of Education. She was selected as a finalist by Student Government Association representatives who attended the annual legislative session of the Maryland Association of Student Councils on February 4, 2006. The state student board member will be selected by Governor Robert L. Ehrlich this spring. The student member will serve a one-year term ending in June 2007.

Ms. Raheem, who began attending Albert Einstein High School in 2005, has a range of impressive credentials to her credit. A student in the International Baccalaureate Program and Academy of Finance, her honors include serving as Black Student Achievement Program mentor and track and field captain. She ran at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Championships and qualified and ran at the AAU Junior Olympics. She was invited to the 2005 and 2006 National Student Leadership Conference, the 2005 Congressional Student Leadership Conference, and the People to People student ambassadors program.
