Rosa Parks Middle School Honors Civil Rights Leader

November 2, 2005
Rosa Parks Middle School hosted a ceremony honoring the school’s namesake, Rosa Parks, on Wednesday, November 2.

Board of Education President Patricia B. O’Neill and Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frieda K. Lacey joined Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, NAACP President Henry Hailstock, County Council Vice President George Leventhal, and other elected officials and community members to pay tribute to the civil rights pioneer at a tree-planting and reflection ceremony. Principal Sarah Pinkney-Murkey, 8th grade students, teachers, and PTA representatives also participated in the ceremony.

A Ride On bus was on hand with the tribute that has been on all Ride On buses since Monday. The first forward-facing seat behind the driver features a black bow and flyer with the words “This Seat is Dedicated to the Memory of Rosa Parks.”
