"Making Music at Strathmore" to Air on MCPS Ch. 34

January 24, 2005
ROCKVILLE, MD-Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) instructional television's Cable Channel 34 will air its new mini-documentary production, “Making Music at Strathmore,” throughout the month of February.

The program follows 10,000 MCPS second graders on an interactive, musical journey -- one that starts in their music classrooms and culminates in a National Philharmonic concert at the new Music Center at Strathmore. The concert followed a series of classroom lessons, where students learned about the symphony orchestra, the four instrumental families, and rehearsed their concert song called “The Little Train of Caipira.”

The documentary captures students preparing for the concert in their music classes and provides glimpses of the sights and sounds of concert day, including the National Philharmonic orchestra performance, solo performances by two Montgomery County high school students, the grandeur of the new concert hall, and most importantly, the second graders enjoying the concert and performing their song with the orchestra.

Insightful interviews from students, teachers, musicians, and key staff showcase the benefits of this educational arts program and the partnership among MCPS, Strathmore, National Philharmonic, and Discovery Channel that brought it to fruition.

“Making Music at Strathmore” will air during February on MCPS Cable Channel 34 on the following days and times:

· Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m.
· Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m.
