109 Schools Recognized for MSA Performance

The Maryland State Department of Education has announced that 109 local schools received awards in the 2004 School Performance Recognition Program. The awards were based on achievement on the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) administered in Grades 3 through 8 and Grade 10 in 2004.

The 109 award winners represent more than half of Montgomery County’s public schools. Statewide, 562 schools received the awards for overall achievement and improved performance by special populations or subgroups that include race/ethnicity, special education, limited English proficiency, and students who are receiving free or reduced price meals.

Seven elementary schools received cash awards of $7,233.68, for a total cash award to local schools of $50,635. Only schools receiving federal funding through Title I were eligible for cash awards.

In addition, 76 elementary schools, 16 middle schools, 9 high schools, and a special education center received certificates for overall achievement, improvement among subgroups from 2003 to 2004, or both.
