Parent Update Provided on Quality Drinking Water

September 16, 2004
An update to parents detailing the status of efforts to ensure quality drinking water amid findings of elevated levels of lead in schools is being distributed this week. The update is in the form of a joint letter from Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools, and Dr. Ulder Tillman, county health officer.

The letter is the fourth update from the Montgomery County Public Schools and the Montgomery County Health Department since efforts began last year to test and analyze literally thousands of water samples being taken from 192 schools and other facilities. Multiple language translations of the letter also are being distributed.

A copy of the letter is available at the link below. Translations and other information about the water quality efforts are provided at the school system’s web site on Lead Safeguards at the second link.
