Edison HS Students Earn National CTE Awards

Two top awards were earned by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students at the SkillsUSA 2004 National Leadership and Skills Conference, held recently in Kansas City, Missouri.

The local students were among approximately 4,800 Career and Technology Education (CTE) secondary and post-secondary students from around the nation who showcased their skills in 60 trade, technical, health occupations, and leadership competitions.

The following MCPS students earned two of the sixteen national medals awarded to students from Maryland:

Silver Medal - Health Knowledge Bowl
Alice Johnson, Adrienne Smith, Lucy Weru, Saurabh Mahajan, Thomas Edison High School of Technology

Sixth Place - Basic Health Care Skills
Amanda Osborne, Thomas Edison High School of Technology

Earlier this year, Maryland CTE students competed in the 2004 SkillsUSA State Championships held at the Center of Applied Technology North in Catonsville and Anne Arundel Community College's Hospitality, Culinary Arts, and Tourism Institute in order to qualify for the national competition.
