Volunteer Tutors are Needed for Summer Program

April 27, 2004
Volunteer tutors are needed for Summer Adventures in Learning 2004, an Extended Learning Opportunities program. The free Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) program, set for July 6-July 30 for four hours each weekday morning, is designed to reinforce what children know and provide a head start on learning for the upcoming year. Participating students will be entering kindergarten through fifth grade in August.

Students at 17 selected MCPS schools will improve their reading, writing, and mathematics skills. The sites are Broad Acres, East Silver Spring, Gaithersburg (at South Lake), Harmony Hills, Highland, Highland View, Kemp Mill, Montgomery Knolls, New Hampshire Estates, Oak View (location to be decided), Rolling Terrace, Rosemont, Summit Hall, Twinbrook, Viers Mill, Weller Road (at Brookhaven), and Wheaton Woods elementary schools.

Volunteers must have a desire to work with young children; tutor students in reading, writing, and math; be willing to participate in a two-hour training session on June 3 or June 10; and make a minimum four-hour commitment. For information, contact Marina McKee, mentoring coordinator, at 301-279-3100 phone, 301-279-3815 fax or Marina_N._McKee@mcpsmd.org.
