From Washington Beltway: Exit Route 29 North Colesville Road. Continue through White Oak past New Hampshire Avenue, Randolph Road and Fairland Road. Turn left at Briggs Chaney Road and get in the right hand lane and make the first right at Old Columbia Pike. Paint Branch is on the right.

From Route 70: Exit Route 29 South to Columbia. Continue south on Route 29 through Columbia into Montgomery County. Pass Route 198 and Greencastle Road. Turn right at Briggs Chaney Road and get in the right hand lane and make the first right at Old Columbia Pike. Paint Branch is on the right.

STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT

November 8, 1999 ^ 7:00 p.m.

Paint Branch High School

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold a public forum on Monday, November 8, 1999, in Montgomery County at the Paint Branch High School, 14121 Old Columbia Pike, in Burtonsville beginning at 7:00 p.m. Interested citizens are invited to express their views and opinions on issues and topics under the purview of the State Board of Education.

The Maryland State Board of Education is responsible for establishing policy and exercising general supervision of the State's system of elementary and secondary education, including correctional education. The Board also oversees the State's system of public libraries and provides vocational rehabilitation to citizens in need of such services. The State Board would appreciate hearing comments and suggestions on efforts to improve the academic achievement of all students, as the State Board is currently analyzing achievement in reading and achievement among African-American students and students in poverty. The Board also would welcome suggestions and comments related to early intervention services and programs to prevent learning problems and strengthen student achievement.

Persons desiring to present comments may register at the meeting site beginning at 6:30 p.m. Any citizen or group representative may register to speak. Registration will close at 7:15 p.m. The forum will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. and speakers will be called in the order of registration.

Speakers are asked to abide by the following guidelines:

Questions or statements to the State Board should relate to a recent State Board agenda item or one that is expected to appear on a future agenda, or relate to a matter of general policy over which the State Board has jurisdiction.

Questions or statements should be brief, to the point and limited to 3 minutes or less.

Personnel matters, pending appeals, or comments regarding the actions or statements of individual staff are not appropriate topics.
