13 Schools Receive State Funds for Meals

August 1, 2003
Thirteen local schools will receive state funds for the 2003-2004 school year for a classroom breakfast program called Maryland Meals for Achievement (MMFA). All students in participating schools will be able to eat school breakfast in their classrooms each morning free of charge.

By state law, at least 40 percent of students enrolled in a school must be eligible for free or reduced-price meals for the school to qualify for MMFA. This year’s applicants in Maryland included 153 schools from 19 school systems.

Local participating schools are Burnt Mills, Gaithersburg, Georgian Forest, Highland View, New Hampshire Estates, Oak View, Rosemont, South Lake, Summit Hall, Viers Mill, Washington Grove, and Weller Road elementary schools and Parkland Middle School.
