The Montgomery County Educational Media Association (MCEMSA) has named Michael W. Headman, principal of Rock Creek Valley Elementary School, the Outstanding Principal of the Year for his contributions to the library media program during 2002-2003. The Nancy Walker Award is presented by MCEMSA in honor of a former Montgomery County Public Schools director of School Library Media Programs.

Headman was nominated by his library media specialist, Concetta "Connie" Goodrich, for his work over the last several years to promote reading through the library media center. Under his leadership, Rock Creek Valley Elementary School has made a sustained effort to achieve higher levels of free-choice reading by its students. He received the award at the annual MCEMSA banquet on May 14th.
