Champions for Children Recognizes Outstanding Contributions to Education

The Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE) has announced winners of eight awards that will be presented at their 8th annual Champions for Children Awards Celebration.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at MedImmune’s headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD.

The honorees are:

· Marian Greenblatt Fund Winner / MCPS Teacher of the Year Finalist: Don Ayotte, Science Teacher, Thomas S. Wootton High School

· Marian Greenblatt Fund Winner / MCPS Teacher of the Year Finalist: Carol Knoblach, 4th Grade Teacher, Travilah Elementary School

· Marian Greenblatt Fund Winner / MCPS Teacher of the Year Finalist: James Schafer, Science Teacher, Montgomery Blair High School

· Rookie Teacher of the Year: Amber Dinisio, Kindergarten Teacher, Arcola Elementary School

· Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Education Administration and Supervision: Jeffrey Martinez, Consulting Principal, MCPS Office of Organizational Development; Carolyne Starek, Consulting Principal, MCPS Office of Organizational Development

· Supporting Services Employee of the Year: Justin Martin, Security Assistant, Newport Mill Middle School

· Business Champion for Children: Deloitte

· Volunteer Champion for Children: Springbrook High School PALA - Padres y Alumnos Latinos en Acción

In addition to the awards listed above, The Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leader and Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher will be announced at the awards celebration. At the end of the ceremony, the Montgomery County Public Schools Teacher of the Year will be revealed from among the three Marian Greenblatt award winners.
