U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk led an Earth Day celebration at Francis Scott Key Middle School, highlighting the school’s use of solar energy. Key, certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, is one of eight MCPS schools that uses solar panels to provide a portion of the school’s electrical power—thanks to a partnership with SunEdison. The company installed and financed the solar panels at the schools, providing MCPS with a savings of $200,000 in electricity costs over the life of the systems.
