We demonstrate Focus on Results and Creating Value in the school when we:

  • respond to changing needs or requirements of students and stakeholders

  • plan instruction with the end in mind, ensuring that curriculum indicators are aligned across the school

  • use a variety of performance measures to assess short- and long-range goals, monitor performance, and provide a valid basis for continuous improvement

  • place emphasis on creating value for students and stakeholders

  • track student performance and school processes and report results (post results in the hallways, report to the community, etc.)

  • project for differing and possibly conflicting stakeholder needs and plan accordingly

  • plan for instruction that addresses the diverse learning needs of students

  • align instruction with system milestones, data points, targets, and curriculum indicators

  • communicate clearly to students the expectations in mastering objectives

  • use preassessments to differentiate instruction based on the needs of students

  • use formative assessments to check student understanding (exit cards, weekly tests), to make rapid adjustments in instruction, as needed, and to determine value created as a result of instructional strategies

  • incorporate the PDSA model to guide continuous improvement

  • track classroom performance on key measures using data centers and data notebooks for personal performance; communicate results routinely to parents
