These sessions are for the new webmaster or the webmaster
who is new to the HTML editing software Dreamweaver. We are no longer training MCPS webmasters in the use of FrontPage. (Microsoft has dropped the product with the release of Office 2007.) This is an all-day session.
The morning is a guided session. In the afternoon, participants
will have time to practice what they learn in the sample site.
- This is basic skills class for
building web pages – Adding text and images,
making links and using tables to make new web pages.
- The training also covers the FTP
component of downloading and uploading pages to the
MCPS web server. SmartFTP is the supported product for transferring files to and from the MCPS web.
NOTE: Office webmasters
should be using the MCPS template for their sites. Offices
moving their site into the MCPS template should migrate to the new web publishing system, Tron. Learn more Offices already updating their site that is in the MCPS template should use Dreamweaver to maintain their sites or plan on migrating to Tron. Dreamweaver is available to the TechMod schools as part of the TechMod software component, but office webmasters will have to make arrangements to purchase Dreamweaver for each workstation doing HTML updates. Tron users do not have to purchase any software. Tron is browser (Internet Explorer 6) based.
Participants who are school or office webmasters should plan to apply for
and bring their FTP login information to the training
session. See How
to Become a Webmaster
Introduction to TRON This is a half-day training class for schools and/or webmaster new to using TRON. Sign up for the morning OR afternoon session. This is not for schools not yet using TRON, but for those migrated or in the final stages of moving into the TRON web publishing system. All topics of updating and maintaining a site will be covered in this session.
TRON schools should attend this class instead of Introduction to Web Authoring and Design.
To find these classes in PDO search for "Tron" in the course title.
This classes is now a
full-day session. This session is for the MCPS
webmaster who has mastered the introductory material
and is ready to take advantage of more advanced topics. This class is fast-paced and is not designed for novice Dreamweaver users.
Dreamweaver Intermediate topics will cover the following topics: a quick review of intro Dreamweaver topics; HTML tags and formats; creating graphic buttons for menus; introduction to using CSS for styling text; using SSI (server side includes), MCPS tool includes, feedback forms, and other useful concepts.
Introduction to Fireworks explores
the graphic-editing tool in the Adobe CS3 Suite.
It is a more robust tool than Irfanview for creating
and editing graphics. This is an introduction to using
this tool and using vector graphics. There will be classroom
exercises to reinforce the training concepts covered.
These sessions are for
the MCPS webmaster with enough experience to work independently.
This is an all-day session, but you may choose to attend only part of the day. These sessions provide guidance
and an opportunity to learn new skills or just a place
to work uninterrupted for the day. Participants must have
a webmaster FTP account prior to attending the class.
At least one special topic will be presented in the morning
of each session, except in September. There will be at least two instructors
to provide hands-on support for class members as they
work on their web sites during the day. Webmasters should
bring materials they need and have a project to work on for their site during
the day.
Reminder: This is not an instructor led class. This is a worksession for you to add content or improve your site. Note:
Webmasters have access to both Dreamweaver
and FrontPage for the worksessions. There is also the
standard school software and Fireworks on each workstation.
Tron users will be able to update their sites at CTI starting with the fall of 2007.
Participants should plan to acquire
and bring their FTP login information to the training
session. See How
