If you're new to web publishing, creating a web site from scratch can be a daunting task.
A webmaster wears many hats: html guru, writer and editor, usability expert, designer, content harvester (or wrangler!), and more.
Besides requiring a wide variety of skills, webmastering also requires an understanding of the site production process.
You might be surprised to know that actually doing the html is one of the last and least critical steps in creating a site.
More important are the initial planning and decision-making surrounding the content of the site, ideally
with someone who can act as the "content manager" for your school or office web presence while you handle production.
Not to worry! To help you understand the process and grow into your role, Web Services provides these PDF handouts at webmaster training sessions. We hope they help you up the learning curve.
(These documents should also help you if you're upgrading an existing site. But retooling an existing site brings its own challenges.
For tips on how to remake an existing site or migrate your site to the new MCPS template, see Improving An Existing Site.)
