    Nice mostly text site which is easy to read with jaws. Also has a video which can be played with windows media.

    Articles on electricity
    TEXT only site. Has many links to choose from about electricity. Try "what is electricity" or "humans and sparks".

    NASA text only index page
    This is an example of a text only page. Has many links to choose from. Not all Nasa pages have a text only page available. The flash movie has music.

    National Air and Space Museum Exploring the Planets
    This site has text, pictures, and links. Good use of alt text tags.

    ASSIST With Windows Internet Explorer Tutorial
    This site has examples of different characteristics you may find on the internet. Great information.

    Netiquette
    Mostly text page with links about netiquette which is the rules of do's and don'ts on the internet. One combo box at bottom of page.

    Netiquette Quiz from Yahoo
    This is a 10 question true false quiz on terms and abbreviations commonly used in email. Answer questions using radio buttons.

    References

    American Heritage Dictionary This site takes a little practice in navigation but provides but is an excellent reference. It provides an audio pronunciation of the searched for word, if required.

    Writing Style: MLA
    Tells how to list references in a bibliography.

    Citing sources for a bibliography. This site has many additional examples of how to cite print and web sources in a bibliography using MLA style.

    Writing Topics
    Gives suggestions for writing topics. Grades 2 through 12.

    Find articles
    This website allows one to search for articles from different magazines. This site was submitted by Lauren Tuchman.

    Reference and Research Sites

    The following sites require paid subscriptions. Not all MCPS school subscribe to each site. You must obtain a username and password from your media center specialist.

    Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia Online This is written for students with a reading level of grade 5 and above. It has 36,000 articles, plus links to Web sites featuring additional information. Searching may be done by article title or full-text. Boolean searches are also possible.

    Newbank Infoweb has news articles from 1991-current covering social, economic, environmental, government, sports, health and science issues and events from more than 500 U.S. regional and national newspapers, wire services, and broadcasts, and the full-text of 120 leading magazines.

    Granger's World of Poetry Online is a large, annotated anthology and index of poetry. It can be used to find a particular poem, compare poems, create your own anthology, and to learn about poems.

    Sites for visually impaired

    Electronic Addresses and File Names in computer braille code
    Braille e-mail, website and Internet addresses, file names and the like according to the rules of the Computer Braille Code, most recent edition. Additional links to graphic pages with examples.

    Web-braille site by NLS
    You must have a password to access this site. You will be able to download braille books from the national library service for the blind. You must notify the library in Baltimore to obtain a password.

    National Alliance of Blind Students
    This website is the official website of NABS, the National Alliance of Blind Students which is a special group of ACB. The page includes a chat area.
