MCPS Program for Vision Services provides a variety of itinerant services to support the needs of students, family and IEP teams throughout the county.

• Consultation is provided to school staff regarding impact of student’s visual impairment on their learning

• Compensatory skills are taught to students (ages 3 – 21) in public schools

• Adapted materials and specialized equipment are provided to students to enhance their accessibility to the curricula

• Full time Braille Transcriptionist

• Special Educator Paraeducators

• Parent Educator provides services to families and students

• Consultation services and in-service training for parents and staff

• Collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team at each school

• Functional vision assessments and instruction in the use of low vision aids

• Literacy plans and Braille instruction

• Orientation and mobility assessment and training

• Daily living skill assessments and instruction

• Compensatory skill evaluations and instruction

• Assistive technology evaluations and training

• Adaptation of instructional materials

• Procurement of special equipment, aids and modified textbooks/standardized tests
