My name is Elmer and I am 12 years old.  I am blind.  I am in 7th grade and enjoy going to school.  I like it because I always learn something new.  I also like school because I have friends there.  My friends and I have many things in common: we like the same kind of music, we laugh at the same jokes, and we dislike the same TV shows.  I help them with their homework when they don’t understand a new subject, and they help me when I have to work with visual materials like graphics.   My friends use pencils and pens, notebooks and print textbooks to do their class work.   I use a manual brailler called Perkins, an electronic note taker, and braille textbooks.  I also use electronic texts.    My friends use their eyes for reading.  I use my hands and my ears.  But at the end, we learn the same things.
