The new technology for the visually impaired has made it possible that low vision people can access the written (and visual) world more independently. Besides large print, magnifiers and CCTV's, the computer era offer other accessibility products.
Screen Magnification Software:
Special software that magnifies everything on the computer screen. Whether a person is using a word processing program, taking a computerized test, reading an email or surfing the internet, this type of special software will help him/her use the computer more easily. Also, most screen magnification software allows people to customize the mouse pointer and cursor. For an additional price, some screen magnifiers also come with a basic reader.

Scanning Software:
They usually work with optical character recognition (OCR). The computer with the installed software has to be hooked up to a scanner, which takes pictures of the reading materials. Then, the software allows the user to see the text on the screen and to change its font, print size, text color and background color, according to the visual needs. They also read those materials aloud using different voices and even other languages.
