The department provides the leadership, collaboration, and coordination needed to ensure that information technology systems are developed and implemented based on end-user and reporting requirements, meet quality standards prior to and during deployment, and exemplify systems engineering best practices. The department also provides the coordination needed to ensure that departmental activities, products, and services meet the information technology needs of MCPS users, are aligned with Our Call to Action: Pursuit of Excellence and the vision and strategic plan for technology innovation, and are accomplished efficiently and successfully.

 

Applications Development


Implements and supports effective information technology systems, provides expert recommendations for integration of state-of-the-art technology into administrative practices and support services, and provides mission critical decision support technology in support of the Success For Every Student plan.
Systems Architecture
and Operations

Manages the technical configuration of information systems and facilitates the implementation of effective, secure, and reliable hardware and software solutions. Operates and supports enterprise databases, central and office servers and user accounts, network architecture, e-mail communication.
Quality Assurance

Ensures that software and hardware configuration changes to be deployed throughout the school system meet quality standards prior to deployment. Helps prepare a Software Quality Assurance Plan for each project and develops policies and procedures.

Instructional Management System


The Instructional Management System (IMS) is a robust Web-based, data-driven tool designed to help administrators and teachers monitor and improve student performance. Teachers will use the IMS to access curriculum documents, instructional guide resources, lesson plans, and activities.
Data Warehouse

The Data Warehouse enables MCPS to maintain, query, and report data and the relationships among data. It provides MCPS staff with analytical, statistical, graphical, and other business intelligence tools which allows MCPS to use information resources effectively in strategic analysis, planning, and demonstration of accountability.
IT Systems Security

Ensures that the MCPS computer network is protected from outside threats; provides methods for safe Internet and e-mail use; and develops policies and procedures for data protection.
