The business systems team develops, enhances and maintains the delivery of business applications supporting the operation and staff of MCPS. These business applications include, but are not limited to:

Asset Management System

Allows the Division of Controller to track Capital Assets that meet the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) capitalization threshold.
Board Docs System

Decreases the amount of paper required at Board meetings. Board agendas and supporting documents will be made available to the public via the Board Docs web site. Anyone having access to an internet connection will have the information available to them.
Connect-Ed

Communicates emergency information, attendance notification and community outreach initiatives via phone to employees, students and parents. Will allow school leaders to disseminate important information in a time efficient manner to many people.
Document Imaging System

Allows MCPS to store and retrieve files in electronic images rather than physically store the paper document. One of the benefits is that the time to retrieve a document will be considerably less. Another benefit is that the office space needed to store the physical papers will be eliminated.
Financial Information Systems

Supports the Division of the Controller. The two major functions are Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Additionally, secondary account managers use the FIS to check the balance of funds in their accounts.
Human Resource Information Systems

Contains comprehensive information to support the administrative functions of human resources, payroll, benefits, time and attendance, leave use and tracking and reporting. Stores information about employees, retirees, and their dependents. Allows administrators to obtain information such as management reporting, work force, certification, and system-wide vacancies.
Material Management System

Allows staff to process orders for a wide range of products including bid items, textbooks, instructional materials, office supplies, art supplies and science supplies. Populated with many vendor catalogs for on-line ordering.
Retirement System

Used to create Individual Retirement Statements and help employees determine what retirement benefits are available to them upon their retirement date. Can help employees answer questions about working beyond their retirement eligibility date.
Salary Simulation

Used to prepare a fiscal year’s budget based on projected active employee salaries. Primary functions include an employee reconciliation application which is used to prepare the future employee population, preparation of various salary chart scenarios for each of the unions, and the output of detailed and summary calculations which provide the final budget figures.
Solicitation Data System

Provides the Procurement Office with the tools to prepare, process bids, quotes and request for proposals (RFP) and award them to qualified vendors.
Transportation Information Management System

Provides supports to the functions of the Department of Transportation. Used in the tracking and scheduling of buses, routes, bus operators, attendants and substitutes. Used daily by Dispatchers to assign open bus routes and assure coverage.
