The Instructional Management System (IMS) is the tactical tool that teachers
and principals use on a day-to-day basis to manage instruction and monitor
progress to help schools look at grade levels, classes, and individual
student performance throughout the year.
The IMS is a management tool that
affords administrators, teachers, and other designated staff members
the ability to access and analyze individual student
achievement and differentiate instruction as a result of those findings.
Montgomery County has recently undergone a major revision of our curriculum
and approach to instruction and assessment of student performance. The
IMS
was identified as the vehicle through which these changes will be delivered
to our educators and diverse community of users. This Web-based tool was
implemented in support of our system of shared accountability, underpinning
our goal of success for every student.
The IMS aligns the educational technology
goals with academic priorities by providing teachers and administrators
with immediate access to state and
local curriculum standards that are linked to classroom instructional materials.
Curriculum guides, accompanied by formative and summative assessments,
also reside on the IMS tool. MCPS recognizes that an
effective educational model
links the curriculum to instruction and assessment. Accordingly, the district
has the immediate benefit of monitoring whether each student is building
critical skills and moving toward mastery of knowledge as prescribed by
our newly revised curriculum
Providing the tools to make data decisions at all levels
of our school system is a top technology goal. The
Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) has been
under development since 2001. The IQMS comprises
two major systems – the Data Warehouse and the Instructional Management
System.
The Data Warehouse is a strategic system. When fully
deployed, it will be the repository for all historical
data, student demographic and achievement,
staff certification, financial, materials management, and transportation.
Powerful analytical tools allow staff to turn data into information into
knowledge. Staff can make informed decisions about what actions are required
to reach desired results. Currently, the Data Warehouse is loaded with
middle school student achievement data. See
the Data
Warehouse.
The Instructional
Management System (IMS) is the tactical tool that
administrators and teachers use to make the day-to-day
decisions. They use IMS data to
mold an effective instructional program. In addition to powerful analysis
tools,
the IMS contains all curriculum resources produced during our curriculum
revision. The IMS provides anytime, anywhere dynamic access to data and
the curriculum.
