Goals 2006-2008

Goals, Objectives and Strategies

Goal 1: To ensure students and staff can access, generate, and use data

Objective 1.1 By 2008, all students will be technologically literate by the time the student finishes the eighth grade, regardless of the student’s race, ethnicity, gender, family income, geographic location, or disability

Strategies:

  • Technology literacy definition and standards development strategy
  • Curriculum activities, resources, and assessments strategy
  • Technology training and staff development strategy
  • Digital divide strategy
  • Student accessibility strategy

Objective 1.2 By 2007, all students and staff will have computer access to the data they need

Strategies:

  • Technology Modernization strategy
  • Student systems strategy (including Data Warehouse and Instructional Management System)
  • Business information systems strategy

Objective 1.3 By 2007, formative reading assessments for Grades K-9 will be administered online and results will be compiled electronically to speed up teacher access

Strategies:

  • Technology for Curriculum Mastery strategy
  • Elementary school handheld refreshment strategy
  • Middle school fiber net strategy

Goal 2: To analyze and report data, examine compliance, and evaluate services to provide information on the success of students, schools, and programs

Objective 2.1 The time needed to analyze and publish data will be cut in half by 2008

Strategies:

  • Data cleaning and loading process cycle time strategy
  • Data reporting format strategy
  • Technological analysis support strategy

Objective 2.2 Staff, schools, and the school system will be over 99% compliant with the guidelines, policies, regulations, and laws that define quality educational organizations

Strategies:

  • Online supervision strategy (tablets, walkthroughs, “look-fors” related to supervision of teacher and student work)
  • Policy codification strategy
  • Compliance auditing and support strategy (how resources given are used)

Objective 2.3 By 2007, information on student achievement and program success, including the milestones contained in the MCPS strategic plan, will be available online

Strategies:

  • Parent online information strategy (parent access to grades and formative assessment results)
  • Program evaluation strategy
  • Call to Action reporting strategy

Goal 3: To effectively provide differentiated professional development opportunities to increase the knowledge needed by staff to improve student results

Objective 3.1 Online professional development opportunities will be significantly expanded by 2008

Strategies:

  • Online courses strategy
  • Learning management system strategy

Objective 3.2 A system of professional growth opportunities will be implemented for all MCPS staff by 2008

Strategies:

  • Staff orientation and mentoring strategy
  • Professional growth system strategy
  • Professional development plan strategy
  • Peer assistance and review strategy

Objective 3.3 By 2007 an online management system will be established to measure professional development participation and results

Strategies:

  • Differentiation of professional development strategy
  • Re-teaching strategy
  • Online attendance strategy (Did they attend?)
  • Online skills assessment strategy (Did they learn what they were taught? Are they using new knowledge?)
  • Online evaluation strategy, correlating training to student achievement (Did this training make a difference?)
