The Superintendent's Annual Mark Mann Excellence and Harmony Award is presented to a Montgomery County Public Schools principal who has shown exceptional performance in promoting the following categories: academic excellence, human relations, and community outreach.
2008 Award Winner
Michael Zarchin, principal of Thomas W. Pyle Middle School, is the winner of this year’s Mark Mann Excellence and Harmony Award, presented each year to an outstanding MCPS administrator. Zarchin was recognized for promoting academic excellence in a nurturing and respectful environment that takes into account the needs of the whole child. The award was presented Sept. 17 at the superintendent’s administrative and supervisory meeting.

About the Award
The award is designed to honor the highest qualities and most significant accomplishments of Dr. Mark Mann, former principal of Parkland Middle School, Montgomery County Public Schools. Dr. Mann was recognized throughout the system as an excellent school-based educator who dedicated himself to understanding and embracing the rich diversity of his school and community. He worked tirelessly to make everyone a vital part of school programs, activities and services.
