The Next Book Club: “Cage-Busting Leadership” by Frederick M. Hess

Superintendent Joshua Starr’s next Book Club will be held on Tuesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. The book being discussed will be “Cage-Busting Leadership,” by Frederick M. Hess, of the American Enterprise Institute, who will join Dr. Starr and other panelists for the event.
To be a part of the live studio audience, please email pio@mcpsmd.org by May 15. The Book Club will be broadcast live on MCPS TV and streamed live on the web at www.mcpsbookclub.org.
During the event, Dr. Starr, Dr. Hess and the panelists will discuss the book and take questions from the studio audience and those watching at home. Questions can be sent by email to ask@mcpsbookclub.org or by Twitter, using the hashtag #mcpsbookclub, during the event.

Dr. Starr selected “The Global Achievement Gap: Why Even Our Best Schools Don’t Teach the New Survival Skills Our Children Need—and What We Can Do About It” by Tony Wagner for his book club discussion on April 24, 2012. Parents, staff, students, and the community were invited to join the discussion as members of the studio audience. Viewers at home were able to participate via Twitter and email.
January 31, 2012 - "Drive" by Daniel Pink
Dr. Starr held his second book club on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, featuring the book “Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us” by Daniel Pink. Dr. Starr led a panel discussion that included Mr. Pink. Hundreds of people joined the discuss in person, online, on MCPS TV, and at the Bethesda Barnes & Noble Bookstore.

November 29, 2011 - "Mindset" by Carol Dweck
Dr. Starr held his first book club on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, featuring the book “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” by Carol Dweck. Dr. Starr led a panel discussion that included Dr. Dweck, who participated via Skype from her office at Stanford University in California. Hundreds of people joined the discuss in person, online and on MCPS TV.
