The ABCD Award recognizes distinct and extraordinary accomplishments of current Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) employees in connection with official employment. Employees who serve our students, staff, schools, and communities with superb contributions outside the realm of their duties clearly profit the district and its children. Award recipients enhance both the success and the reputation of our school system through their extraordinary actions. Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools, wishes to acknowledge these outstanding employees with this award and a well-deserved letter of thanks.
- The nominee must be a current employee of MCPS.
- The nominee should have demonstrated one of the following:
- Extraordinary behavior well beyond the scope of his/her daily role and responsibilities.
- An act that had a significant positive impact relative to students, staff, or members of the community.
- A superior contribution of time/effort to the success of a project.
- Exceptional participation or leadership in a regular or special assignment or in responding to an emergency situation.
- Putting his/her life at risk in the line of duty.
- A current MCPS employee may be nominated by any person inside or outside the school system.
- A letter or memorandum should be submitted to Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools, CESC Room 122. This letter must contain the name, position, and work location of the employee, along with a description of events and actions performed by the employee that warrant consideration for this award.

- The nomination must be approved through the Office of the Superintendent of Schools.
The supervisor of the award recipient will receive notification from the Office of the Superintendent of Schools when the ABCD Award is complete and available for pickup or pony delivery. Details about the presentation may be provided by the Office of the Superintendent of Schools to the editor of The Bulletin and to staff at MCPS Instructional Television.
The ABCD Award may be presented in any fashion. It can be done simply and quietly as a gesture of appreciation from a supervisor to an employee. More commonly, the award is presented at a staff meeting or celebration where many can be there to show support and appreciation for the award recipient.
