Most students in MCPS attend their “home school”.
The “home school” is the one that serves the students
living in a particular community. The boundaries of
the home school are determined by the Board of Education.
The International Student Admissions Office usually
assigns students to their home school. However, students
from 9th to 12th grade who are English language learners
are assigned to schools with intensive English centers.
Students in need of special programs may be referred
to another school.
The U.S Consular Office from the country where the applicant
resides may grant a non-immigrant student status (F-1)
to applicant who would like to come to the United States
for the sole purpose of studying. The International
Student Admissions Office is authorized by the Department
of Homeland Security to issue a I-20 Form -a formal
school acceptance document needed for the F-1 visa application
- for high school students for a maximum of one school
year, if students meet the Federal and MCPS requirements
including full payment of school tuition for the duration
of stay. The student’s sponsor residing in Montgomery
County needs to contact ISAO to apply for an I-20 form.
