What documents should I bring to the International Student Admissions Office to enroll my child in MCPS?
Please see our Guide to the Enrollment Process for International Students (433K PDF) and the MCPS How To Enroll web site.

Are parents required to come with their children for the admissions process at ISAO?
Yes. A parent must accompany the student during the admission process to provide information about the minor and to receive information about MCPS. Students who are 18 years or older and living independently from their parents may register at ISAO by themselves.

Does MCPS accept students from exchange student organizations?
Yes. MCPS provide free education up to one school year to students who have met the requirements for admissions and who are sponsored by an approved exchange students organization. The official local representative of the exchange students organization is responsible to apply for admission by contacting ISAO.

Are there any deadlines for the enrollment of international students in MCPS?
No. International students may be enrolled in school as soon as they settle in Montgomery County. However, the deadline for applications of exchange students and I-20 applicants for F1 student visa is as follows:

Exchange Students -
Fall enrollment July 15
Spring enrollment December 31

I-20 Applicants -
Fall enrollment July 15
Spring enrollment December 31

How does the International Student Admissions Office assign students to schools?
Most students in MCPS attend their “home school”. The “home school” is the one that serves the students living in a particular community. The boundaries of the home school are determined by the Board of Education. The International Student Admissions Office usually assigns students to their home school. However, students from 9th to 12th grade who are English language learners are assigned to schools with intensive English centers. Students in need of special programs may be referred to another school.

How can a student apply for a F-1 visa in order to attend MCPS?
The U.S Consular Office from the country where the applicant resides may grant a non-immigrant student status (F-1) to applicant who would like to come to the United States for the sole purpose of studying. The International Student Admissions Office is authorized by the Department of Homeland Security to issue a I-20 Form -a formal
school acceptance document needed for the F-1 visa application - for high school students for a maximum of one school year, if students meet the Federal and MCPS requirements including full payment of school tuition for the duration of stay. The student’s sponsor residing in Montgomery County needs to contact ISAO to apply for an I-20 form.
