Inspired
leadership.
It is powered by honesty, integrity and respect. These
are the pillars of character Brittney Johnson hopes to
provide as the Montgomery County Region Student Government
President.
As a senior at Damascus High School, she believes the
real challenge of today is creating innovative pathways
so that the students of Montgomery County can live up
to their potential. This is where the conversation about
our future begins to unfold and Johnson believes there
is no more important time to be a part of the discussion
than now.
MCR SGAs President has learned a lot about success,
excellence, and integrity on the theatre stage, in her
school student government association and national honors
society, and on her high school tennis, basketball, and
track team. On the court, field, and stage-it is all about
giving your heart and passion because you care about
something more than yourself. She understands that
in order to win a competition it takes teamwork. Johnson
believes, together the students of Montgomery County
can work to advance the voice of MCR SGA as the student
advocate, increase communication among MCR SGA and other
organizations, and amplify the publicity of MCR SGA.
Brittney Johnson believes MCR SGA is a proud diverse group
of student leaders. As president she will work diligently
to initiate and promote a conversation where everyone
is free to bring his or her ideas to the table. |

Current Vice President,
Tim Hwang, is currently a junior at Thomas S. Wootton
High School and a part-time student at Montgomery College.
He is excited to work in MCR-SGA for his third year with
such a fantastic team.
Prior to his election, he has served as Freshman Class
President at Thomas S. Wootton High School, Evaluator
and Chief of Staff at MCR-SGA, Educational Liaison at
MASC, Board Member on the MCSG-PAC, member on several
MCPS and MCR Committees, as well as the CEO/President
(Vice-Chairman) of a non-profit organization.
In school, Tim is active in numerous clubs (JSA, Debate
Team, Model UN, Investment Club, NHS, NSHS, SSHS), serving
as club officer in many of them. When not serving in his
leadership positions, Tim can be seen in the community
volunteering at the Montgomery County Teen Court, Childrens
Hospital, or Smithsonian, translating as a freelance translator,
tutoring students and leading their study groups, or interning
for different government officials or non-profit corporations
(i.e Fannie Mae).
When not pulling his hair out from his outrageously high
number of AP classes, bouncing around from meeting to
meeting, or teaching little children, Tim spends his spare
time serving as the CEO/President of his non-profit organization,
playing clarinet, piano, soccer, golf, and Tae-Kwon-Do,
learning a new language, or just catching up on his sleep. |

Michael Hagan is a rising sophomore at Damascus High
School, and is thrilled about his election to the position
of MCR-SGA Treasurer. Michael has been involved in student
government since 3rd grade as an event coordinator and
class reprensentative, but everything changed when he
became involved in the Montgomery County Junior Councils.
Michael served as the MCJC Liaison to the Special Elections
Committee in seventh grade, and then ran for President
of MCJC going into his eighth grade year. His term as
MCJC President changed his life, and solidified his
passion for expanding the student voice. In ninth grade,
Michael served as Parliamentarian of the Maryland Association
of Student Councils and MCR-SGA, as well as president
of his class back at Damascus. Michael enjoys Student
Government, swimming, long walks on the beach, and Annapolis
Seafood. It is his belief that while some say that student
government is just practice for the real world, there
is nothing more real than the here and now, and that
by the principles of self governance we should be leaders
in our student life, in our reality. He anticipates
an incredibly successful year for MCR-SGA, and thanks
the General Assembly for this tremendous opportunity
to serve.
Vision for 2008-2009 school year
- Establish new sources of substantial revenue that
will allow MCR-SGA to carry out its business as effectively
as possible
How you can help
*Get involved- Join the Treasury Committee and assist
in coordinating fundraisers, seeking donations, and
planning the budget.
*Make sure your school joins MCR-SGA early on in the
school year. Not only does this provide MCR-SGA with
needed revenue, it also gives your school a voice in
the General Assembly.
*Support MCR-SGA Fundraisers. The more we bring in from
our fundraisers, the more we have in our operating budget
to utilize for expanding the student voice.
