What is MCJC? (powerpoint presentation)

MCJC is the countywide, middle school organization for student government. Established in 1957, this organization was formed in order to:

  • Improve inter-school relations and cooperation
  • To promote friendly relations among students of the schools
  • To increase the effectiveness of the individual student councils,
  • To initiate and to promote improvements and activities for the general good of the students of the schools
  • To voice a collective opinion of students on county affairs.

MCJC annually conducts six General Assemblies. Each middle school in Montgomery County may send voting delegates (apportioned according to individual school enrollments, set forth in the MCJC bylaws) to the meetings, and an equal number of observers. General Assembly takes place during the school day at different host schools. (School buses are sent to each school to transport delegates.) During these meetings, MCJC offers a forum for airing the views and concerns of member schools, leadership training, guest speakers, publicity, reports of MASC activities, school sharing of best practices, etc.

The MCJC President and other officers frequently testify before the Montgomery County Board of Education and the Montgomery County Council on behalf of the middle school students of Montgomery County. MCJC also supports the efforts of our MASC legislative committee by giving testimony before our state legislative houses when appropriate.
