Youth Summit: "High School Leaders Shaping the 2010 Youth Legislation" (pictures: page 1, page 2, page 3, page 4)

This event is pasted, however, the information below will remain posted for students to get a "sneak preview" for next year's summit. 21 MCPS juniors and seniors from 11 high schools attended the Oct. 3 event.

The Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland is convening its Youth Summit on Saturday, October 3, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Miller Senate Office building, 11 Bladen Street, Annapolis, Maryland.

This year’s theme is “High School Leaders Shaping the 2010 Youth Legislation.” Select students will engage in workshops, along with our Maryland legislators, to discuss upcoming legislation on cyber bullying and compulsory age, as well as how to make a good first impression. The day will conclude with a mini-fair and a historical tour of Annapolis. A continental breakfast and lunch is being provided.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is allotted space for thirty (30) junior and senior high school students with an interest in politics and/or public service. Transportation will be provided for the students. Mrs. Karen Crawford, coordinator, Student Affairs Office, Department of Student Services, will be accompanying the students on the bus and at the Summit.

The bus will depart from Carver Educational Services Center (CESC), 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, 20850, at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009. The bus will return to CESC at approximately 4:00 p.m. Completed field trip permission forms must be faxed to Mrs. Crawford (301-670-1407) on or before TUESDAY, September 30, 2009.

On or before September 30, 2009 (extended deadline), students meeting the above qualifications may apply on-line (click here). No password is required, just click on “request.” As MCPS is only allotted thirty (30) spaces, this is now a first-come, first-served basis..
