MCPS Recycling Website

Saving Cartridges at School:

• set up a small committee of students to monitor and collect the used cartridges from the printers in the school
• decorate and set up a collection box in a central location for community donations
• tape a small plastic bag on the side of every inkjet printer (bags & tape provided by MCPS Material Management)
• place a reminder sticker on every inkjet printer (provided by MCPS Material Management)
• advertise the program to staff, students and community (sample flyers to send home have been provided, as well as sample newsletter articles)
• post information flyers in every room and near every inkjet printer
• set up a schedule for the students to check the printer bags when the printer bag is full (3 or 4 cartridges - depending on the size of the cartridges), simply take the bag off, seal it, and retape a new bag to the printer
• deposit the filled plastic bag into a box (any size you choose) - you may choose to keep a ìrunning count when you add more cartridges to save time in recounting the whole box when it is full
• when your box is full, count the number of cartridges and seal the box
• fill in the provided pony label (school name and number of cartridges), affix the label to the box and put it in the pony keep a log of how many cartridges you send in and when the box was put in the pony
• a special account, set up for your school, will be credited within 4-6 weeks

SGAs wishing to do this activity to help suport the county-level student government should send their collected inkjet cartridges to the Student Affairs Office (Pony to Karen Crawford, Student Affairs Office, Lakelands Park MS)
