Student Legislators Day

Each year during the General Assembly Session, the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland hosts the Former Senator Nathaniel Exum Student Legislators Day, where students from accros the State come to Annapolis to be State Legislators for a day. Throughout the course of the day, students participate in many of the day-to-day activities of State legislators from testifying on legislation to voting on the house floor (pdf flyer).

This year's event will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m at the Miller Senate Office Building, 11 Bladen Street, Annapolis, Maryland. (pdf directions for parking/trolley and link to parking garages in Annapolis Note: parking in Annapolis will be much easier on a Saturday.)

25 students from high schools in Montgomery County are invited to participate in Student Legislators Day. In previous years, this event has proven to be both educational and enjoyable for all of those who participated. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The event chairs are Delegates Nathaniel Oaks and Jay Walker. For additional information about the actual event, contact the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland's executive director, Deriece Bennett at black.caucus@house.state.md.us.

Interested students need to provide their own transportation.

Students must bring an emergency form to be turned in to the MCPS adult represtative
