Steps For Earning SSL Hours

 
step 1 Consider things that interest you, activities you enjoy, areas you are curious about or a specific organization you want to work with. All SSL must be done with nonprofit, tax exempt organizations.
step 2 Check the list of Pre-approved Service Opportunities for SSL on this Web site.
If the organization and activity are....

step 3 Contact the organization and make an appointment to share your interest.
step 4 Learn about what is expected and make a commitment to serve.
step 3 not pre-approved Learn what is expected from the organization, complete a Special Activity Form and submit it to your school SSL Coordinator for approval PRIOR TO BEGINNING service.
step 4 not pre-approved Upon receiving approval from the SSL Coordinator set up a time to begin your service, begin full participation in the activity.

step 5 Fully participate in the service learning activity.
step 5 Complete a Verification Form to document service preformed in the summer or within each semester service is done.
step 6 Turn completed Verification Form into school SSL Coordinator by the last Friday in September to document service performed during the summer and by the Friday before first semester exams begin to document first semester service; the Friday before second semester exams begin to document second semester service. Keep a copy of all SSL documents.
