Welcome to the Division of
Preschool Special Education, Special Schools and
Related Services pages. One of the major functions
of the Division
is to ensure that students with disabilities achieve
the goals of the MCPS Program of Studies and the
Call to Action plan in the least restrictive environment.
To this end, staff works closely with the Office
of
School Performance and the Department of Facilities
Management to expand the range of special education
services in each high school cluster and to create
more comprehensive, cohesive programs and services
for all students.
The Division staff provides
technical support, consultation, and training to
assist schools
in meeting the requirements
of federal laws, state regulations, and Board policies
related to students with disabilities. Division
staff also provides technical assistance to
local school
IEP team meetings in which disability coding and
program decisions are made and maintains active
outreach and
collaboration efforts with parents, and with federal,
state and community agencies and professional organizations.
