Accomplishments
Improving timeliness
of dissemination of results for state-mandated tests
Working
with DSA staff, the SAAC supported DSA activities to streamline
processess and recommended that MCPS to get information to
parents as soon as possible without compromising the validity
of the results. However, if delays do occur because
of the large amount of student-level data that requires checking
and verification with limited available staffing resources,
MCPS should release the reports incrementally.
Reporting results
from the Surveys of School Environment by race/ethnic groups
SAAC
came to consensus to support the reporting of survey data
should be reported by race/ethnic groups for parents and students.
SAAC members discussed the NCLB requirements to report student
achievement data by race/ethnicity groups and conclude that
the reporting of survey results by race/ethnicity for students
and their parents should follow the same reporting groupings.
Improving parent
response rates to the Surveys of School Environment and Supporting
Services
Each
year SAAC members provide additional support and communication
through organizations such as MCCPTA to improve parent response
rates.
Reducing the number
of senior surveys administered to exiting Grade 12 students
SAAC
supported the reduction of surveys to MCPS seniors.
SAAC
suggested there should be more opportunities for sharing of
“best practices” among schools and offices that were outlined
in the Report. SAAC recommended that the Baldrige report
is posted on the MCPS website.
Improving accountability
measures for students who are or may be identified as Gifted
and Talented
SAAC
recommended that a continuous review of services for Gifted
and Talented policies and identification process. Among
other issues, the committee will consider the disparity in
the delivery of Gifted and Talented programming to students.
