This brief presents findings from a 2008 survey of instructional staff in Title I schools. The survey was designed to examine the extent to which the MCC initiative was implemented in Title I schools during the 2007-2008 school year and to identify areas needing improvement.
Support teachers with strategies for managing the pace of the MCPS mathematics curriculum.Continue to clarify required skills and expectations at each grade level.Ensure that teachers know the vertical articulation of the continuum of mathematical skills from one grade level to the next. Continue emphasis on strategies for providing challenging and enriched instruction in a heterogeneous classroom as well as strategies for supporting struggling students within the regular classroom instructional block. Review teachers' needs regarding pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics and target MCC sessions accordingly.
