Thank You to Our Teachers

Dear MCPS Teachers,

This week, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week in Montgomery County Public Schools and I would like to take a moment to thank you for your work. You are helping to shape the future leaders of this community and that is a tremendous responsibility.

As I recently shared at the Champions for Children awards celebration, teaching is a calling that is not for everyone. It requires knowledge, dedication, creativity, a mastery of multitasking, the ability to be caring and demanding, a belief in equity, limitless patience, and a resolute expectation of excellence from others and self.

I thank you for shouldering this responsibility. You work tirelessly. You are mentors, role models, listeners and motivators. You educate, energize and inspire, and you have such a positive impact on the lives of our more than 160,000 students and our school communities.

While we take this day to celebrate you, please know that the work you do is highly valued every day. On behalf of Montgomery County Public Schools, thank you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jack R. Smith
Superintendent of Schools
