Paraeducator

Paraeducator Studying Skillful Teaching (Para-SST) is a 36-hour course in which participants examine ways they can maximize student learning by building positive personal relationships with students, maintaining and communicating high expectations, recognizing that many discipline problems stem from student frustration and feelings of powerlessness and promoting collaboration and collegiality with teachers.

When is the course offered?

This course is not currently being offered for the summer/fall 2017 semester in MCPS. Courses are generally offered twice yearly: beginning in the summer, with completion by January; and beginning in January, with completion by May. Registration for these classes usually opens on the Professional Development Online (PDO) system in March for summer/fall sessions and in October for winter/spring sessions.

Tuition Reimbursement

Tuition reimbursement through MCPS applies for credit earned through Fitchburg State University, provided that the course was taken outside the duty day.

What do I do with my certificate/grade slip once I have completed the course?

Please retain a copy of your certificate of completion for your records. If you took the course for graduate credit through Fitchburg State University, you must request a transcript on Fitchburg’s website. Further details will be provided by your instructor.
