Under close supervision, performs
routine office clerical and pupil contact duties in schools.
The work of the class consists of clerical tasks assigned
by teachers or administrators which can be readily learned
on the job. Workers operate photocopy machines, collate
and staple materials, sort and file, and may type. Other
assignments involve lunchroom and playground attendance
duties, monitoring activities and assisting students as
needed. Positions may be assigned tasks similar to those
of instructional assistants for brief periods and as classroom
helpers. |
Some knowledge of business English,
spelling and arithmetic. Some knowledge of modern office
practices and procedures. Some understanding of the field
of child development. Ability to make minor decisions
in accordance with school and MCPS policies. Ability to
maintain clerical records and to perform routine office
tasks. Considerable patience and ability to work with
children. Ability to work harmoniously with and provide
a broad range of assistance to the instructional staff.
Skill in the proficient operation of a typewriter. Skill
in operating duplicating machines. Completion of the MCPS
Typing Test at the required score. |
| Graduation from high school and experience in performing
general clerical work and typing duties. Some experience
in working with children preferred. Other combinations
of applicable education, training, and experience which
provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary
to perform effectively in the position may be considered. |

and related equipment and to assist in the relocation

Types a variety of memoranda, letters, dittos, stencils,
reports, tests, exercises, rosters, IEP's, and other
materials related to the instructional programs.
Reproduces instructionally-related materials through
use of duplicating machines such as mimeograph, thermofax
and Xerox. Collates and staples reproduced materials.
Orders and maintains supplies such as book labels,
paste, etc. Orders books and forms. Maintains and completes
inventories on books, equipment and other materials.
Distributes, maintains records on, and collects books
and other materials. Performs indexing, filing and record-keeping
as required.
Posts data on student records, compiles and records
grades, corrects objective texts, arranges for audiovisual
equipment, obtains information requested by teacher/others,
handles distribution of lunch tickets, arranges meetings
involving teachers, answers telephones, acts as receptionist,
collects money for field trips and class pictures. Calls
substitute teachers as required.
Monitors student activity at lunch periods, during
recess and during loading/unloading of school buses;
monitors class during testing or brief absence of teachers;
escorts students to restrooms and provides assistance
as required. May provide assistance to ill students.
Supports teachers by performing curriculum-oriented
instructional assistance to students as school needs
dictate; however, such instruction comprises a clear
minority of the work hours.
